Why PRESS?

Why PRESS?

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, approximately one third (32%) of fourth grade students performed below Basic levels of reading in 2017. The need to help students succeed in reading is a priority across the nation and is the driving force behind PRESS. We provide a framework for multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) in elementary reading that complements your core curriculum and can be used with a variety of assessment programs. Since 2014, thousands of educators from across the U.S. have learned to bolster reading improvement using PRESS. Explore how PRESS can benefit your students. In 2010, the Minnesota Center for Reading Research partnered with Minnesota Reading Corps and the Target Corporation to develop the PRESS pilot, a three-year initiative to enhance research-based instructional practices in K-3rd grade reading at six Minneapolis schools (public and charter).  After completing the development pilot in 2014, PRESS leaders began offering resources and professional development to schools and districts across the Midwest. Our materials have been put into practice by schools throughout the United States and Canada. Premium members will have full access to demonstration videos, downloads, and community forums to assist you in your practice. Your support will help us continue our research and passion to improve literacy for all children in elementary schools across the nation and around the world.
