Student Absent During Partner Reading With Paragraph Shrinking

Hi, Everyone!

I have had this question come up more than once, so thought I would get other people's thoughts about it. When implementing Partner Reading with Paragraph Shrinking as a classwide intervention, what do you have a student do when their partner is absent?

Should the student who is there join another group (and what does that look like) or should you have the student re-read the text that has been previously read and practice paragraph shrinking independently during that part of the intervention?

I look forward to your responses!

Kendra

We had that happen often, so we would have that person partner with the teacher.  That day, the teacher could not walk around and monitor, but it worked for one day.  If we had 2 pairs of students with each gone, we would try and just partner them up for the day.  They still got their reading in and paragraph shrinking.

Thanks Carol for sharing the options you have tried. It would be great to hear what others have tried.
