Skills Monitoring

We are using the PRESS skill monitoring and would appreciate some guidance.

1. Are the word lists timed for one minute?

Each list has a spot for sounds read/minute and words read/minute.

2. Is there a minimum of words students should be reading at 90% accuracy IF the passages are timed for one minute?

3. If the passages aren't timed, what is a reasonable amount of time to allow to read the list?

All lists appear to have 50 words.

WE'D APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION FROM ANYONE REGARDING SKILLS MONITORING PRACTICE.

Thanks.

The skill assessments in the PRESS Assessment Manual are timed for one minute. You can use the results of both the sounds read per minute and the words read per minute to help guide your instruction. In the Phonics tab of the Assessment Manual there are directions about timing and scoring.

Also, as a premium member, you can go to the Coaching forum for further questions.
